I can’t even begin to describe the relief that being completely free of credit card debt brings. We were almost $50k in debt when we joined the program in July 2008. We were given the estimate that we would be done with the program by July 2011. Here it is June, 2010, and we are completely debt free.
Was it easy, NO! We were hit hard and quick, and were sued several months in a row. Our family of four was living on just $100 per week for groceries and gas. But, we did it.
We clipped coupons. We played board games for entertainment, we created play dates to give as birthday gifts to the kids’ friends and we ate EVERY meal AT HOME for months on end. But now… NOW… every dollar that comes in our home is OURS.
And, for the first time in four years, we are treating our family to a much deserved vacation. Are we going to splurge on a fancy vacation which we’ll pay for later? Absolutely NOT. We are going camping, and are using the money we have already saved to do this. We have learned to live on what we have, and not what we may have in the future.
We are in the process of refinancing our home, and one of the questions asked was in reference to our unsecured debt … we put down ZERO! We have been married over 10 years, and have always had to put down SOME number. It was so nice to say, “We have no credit card debt.”
I can’t even believe we got out of debt in less than 2 years. I am so happy to be where I am. The sacrifices for the last 2 years were totally worth it.

When I started I was overwhelmed and very distraught over my inability to pay my debts and the thought of paying for the next 5 to 10 years and having paid nothing but interest literally made me sick.

I still have a ways to go getting my credit cleaned up now but the biggest hurdle is complete and I truly believe that I would have not been able to do it myself. You made a realistic goal and kept me motivated to complete.

I can’t tell you what a relief it is to have that load off of my shoulders! Without your help I would have been chipping away at my bills for many years. I still have one credit card but am keeping it totally manageable. It’s not used for “fun” or to help out family. Basically, I forget I have it.

If there was a “downside” to the procedure, it was the pit bulls that work for the credit card companies who made my life miserable with their 25 calls a day for a while. I would call your company just to talk and they would settle me down.

I must admit I had reservations initially. I had never done anything like this before and I didn’t know of anyone who had, so there wasn’t a reference point for me. However, I didn’t want to file bankruptcy so my choices were limited. It was like diving into the deep end of the swimming pool; not knowing if I was going to drown or make it to the shallow end. It was a leap of faith, but I was convinced by your people that if I stayed the course and made my payments I would be okay.
The monthly newsletters helped as well as the phone calls, but successfully paying of the first account really boosted my confidence and desire to keep going. When I got a call that the second account was negotiated and a payment plan was in place I knew that in 17 more months it all would be behind me.
The biggest thing is having faith and staying consistent with your payment plan. If something comes up and you can’t make a payment your people will work with you but the big thing is don’t give up! You didn’t get into this predicament overnight so it’s going to take some time to get out of it. But stay committed and focused and it will happen.
